Latest Updates from Our Project:

An Achievement attained, a contest announced, some lore.
over 6 years ago – Mon, Sep 04, 2017 at 04:55:30 PM

We’ve attained the goal for our first community achievement, HUZZAH!

Thanks to your very successful efforts, the “Ace Pilot” Hero Card will now be added to all the Game sets.

Any ship with this Singasari hero is never still, sowing confusion as she hits and runs, confounding the enemy. You never know where she'll be next.

Our next Hero Card unlocks at 300 Retweets and 300 Shares(and we’re already at 315 shares, so reTweet and mention [ @avertigos_game ] more folks). Onward, Avertigos!

Facebook Storytelling Contest

Next, we’re announcing a small competition on our Facebook Page – a creative storytelling contest!

Choose from one of the ships below, and write a story about it and its crew – their origin and their escapades. Not the ship class, but the ship itself. Think of the USS Missouri and its storied history.

Your story will be judged on its closeness to the lore and style of Avertigos, the creativity of the plot, the origin of the boat and crew, and how well the chosen style of presentation fits with the story.

This is a Facebook contest, so to participate you just need to do the following:

  • Present your story in your preferred style. Writing, image, video or a comic strip.
  • Post it on your FB account by midnight PDT Sunday 10th September 2017.
  • Include this url in your post [ http://kck.st/2vXQQMk ]
  • Tag our FB page [ @Avertigos ]

The winner of this contest will win signed poster of the ship of their choice.

We look forward to reading what you come up with, so go for it!

And to give you an idea of things, here’s the background of everyone’s first major Sky Ship class, the Patrol Boat.

Origin of the Patrol Boat Class

When Bayanore was first discovered, it was the merchants who recognised its potential. They soon started converting all the small ships they could afford, as technicians and specialists worked to harness and refine the material. In time, the most successful merchant houses had small fleets of flying sail ships making trade runs.

Their favourite was the patrol boat – although not too hardy, they were favoured for how cheap they were to construct and their ability to cover greater distances in a shorter time. For many merchants, the patrol boat was the first real sky ship they got and they would either make their fortune or die by it.

As clans grew in size and expanded their influence, this class of ship was entrusted to scions furthest down the line of succession, so that they could strike out to find their fortune and prove themselves worthy of the family name, and deserving of larger ships.

While more formidable ships may dominate the skies, patrol boats serve multiple roles as explorers, escorts and border guard. They can fly great stretches to maintain and expand the clan's claims effectively, or converge as packs to provide fast responses to skirmishes with pirates and rivals, engaging any intruders long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

George's "How to create an Avertigos poster in 13 easy steps!"
over 6 years ago – Thu, Aug 31, 2017 at 06:50:56 PM

Preface: So, I've been pestering George to write about his process. Here's George being his usual laconic self:

How to create an Avertigos poster in 13 easy steps!

"Why does every ship have their own poster except the Frigate?" They asked. Well, I've been working on it, and today, I will show to how to paint an Avertigos ship poster in 13 very simple steps!

Step.1) Decide what you want to paint and how you want to best portray it. I wanted to paint a top-down, foreshortened view of the Frigate to showcase the deck and the ship's unique shape. Once decided, it's time to sketch out some perspective lines!

Step.2) Once you have laid down your guides, it's time to get sketchy!

Step.3) Decide where you main light is, and shart painting in the shades to create volume.

Step.4) Now the fun part. Start painting in the details! but before that, make sure everything is rendered according to scale!

Step.5) Getting the hang of it yet? It's so EASY!

Step.6) And here we are! The B&W render is complete!

Step.7) Surely, the job isn't done yet. We need colour!

Step.8) TaDA!~~ Fully coloured. Like Magic

Step.9) Now that the focus of the poster is mostly finished, create a simple background for it. Here, I've googled for a simple photograph of an ocean surface and did some simple editing to get the effect I wanted.

Step.10) Paint in some clouds... yada yada...

Step.11) Paint some smoke... or is it... steam? #Smokepunk anyone?

Step.12) Let's pull back and see this!

Step.13) We are almost there! But no poster is complete without a fancy logo, so let's go ahead and slap it in!

Cue drumroll WE ARE DONE! So this is how you paint an Avertigos poster in 13 super easy steps! Try it and let us know your progress in the comments!

P.S.

I hope you enjoyed this demonstration. Now, share it with the world with this link: http://kck.st/2gm6Spz/

Major Update! Avertigo prepare yourself!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 29, 2017 at 06:02:40 PM

We started on this mad quest to build the best game we could. During its creation and refinement every little detail was given meticulous attention. We ruthlessly tested our ideas till things broke. We then picked up the pieces and started building again.

We have shed literal tears, sweat and blood (literal used here again literally and not metaphorically). We've argued and fought amongst ourselves and deeply elaborated and explained things to each other to ensure that things get done the way that was and felt right.

For all this attention and dedication we gave this game of ours, we could not have imagined all the love that Avertigos has been getting. I can't reproduce everything here but here's a glimpse of a few of our favourites moments:

So whats coming up?

Dear Avertigos,

This is game that you are bringing to life along with us is a rich, deeply thematic game (set in a different-from-the-norm kind of fictional world) with entirely new mechanics and a massive kit. It is a game that requires intellectual engagement and commitment.

We are incredibly lucky to have found this community of early backers and while there are more people like you in the world, they are likely very spread out and hard to find.

For the world to come to love our game (and I do mean it as a game belonging to this community) in time, this committed community of pioneers has to grow steadily and seek out more like minded people. For this we need your help.

You may be wondering why we can't manage this ourselves. We need your help in order to do this faster than the organic out-reach, standard ad campaigns and paid acquisition can make possible. If all 260 of you get behind us to talk regularly about this campaign in various platforms, forums, blogs, pages and groups I am sure the internet will have to listen.

We have a big game, we have a capable, popular and busy production partner and we are not ready to make any compromises in the quality of its production. All this needs money. We also want to be able to unlock as many extended goals as possible and in order to do that we need to ensure that we can get the economies of scale for larger minimum order quantities.

As Robert Lewis Backer #173 has already pointed out. Lively discussions in the comments section will pull us up on Kicktraq. We also need to reach out and get in touch with the larger Board game, Tabletop game and miniature war-gaming communities.

As the creators of the campaign we can only do so much in these places before getting tagged as spam. You however as backers will be given much more leeway.

All of us need to be out there and talking to the world and we need to work together as a community and pull in the same direction. In order to facilitate that we have come up with a Community Achievements board that we will undertake update frequently.

This is done not in order to entice you but rather as a very small and humble token of our appreciation of your efforts.

We are also making changes to the campaign page (some done and some coming soon) in order to make the campaign more enticing to new backers, watchers and fence sitters.

So begin now! Share the campaign page as frequently as possible. Share our Facebook posts (simple liking and commenting lets us know you love us but sharing gets the message to more people) Retweet our tweets and mention us in your own tweets.

The details of our socials are:

www.facebook.com/avertigos/

www.twitter.com/avertigos_game/

and here is a bit.ly url that I generated of the campaign to use with Whatsapp:

Together we can make this game the biggest hit of 2017!

Love

Sid

Big things are coming! Spoiler Alert!

This update is a herald for a slew of news that we will be releasing shortly.

Advertising & Social Media Campaigns

We've had a hectic week at Singapore with the finalising of our Social media and Advertising campaigns. You'll soon see Ads and promotionals for Avertigos with far greater frequency. The Facebook Ads have already started and we are in the process of finalising our Google Adwords, Youtube and Placements campaigns. This has taken some time because the campaigns could not precede the Kickstarter going live, and even after the launch we needed a duration of data collection and fine-tuning. We are working with a careful budget and have had to figure out creative ways to reach out to enthusiasts without competing for ad-spends with the advertising behemoths.

Here are 2 of the ad styles we are putting out. (Give us feedback on your preference!)

Play Date with Backer #1

We were lucky to have Allan Simonsen, Co-Founder and CTO, Boomzap Entertainment, Avertigos Backer #1 over at our Studio to play a game. Joining Allan was Jean-Francois Prevost, Avertigos Backer #130, Elizabeth and Nikki. We'll be adding the video to pay-per-view shortly but here is a poster I made for it. (Some of you may notice I don't quite have George's skill with Graphics)

Once again any backer who is in Singapore and wishes to drop by and play the game at our Studio is most welcome.

Going to STGCC 2017

While we could showcase Avertigos at Gencon 50 we planned our campaign to coincide with the biggest Geek event in Singapore (The show drew 45,000 attendees in 2016). The Singapore Toys, Games & Comics Convention (STGCC) 2017 celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year.

Thanking the community

We are absolutely amazed and humbled by the love and support that we have received from this community. We can't express enough what the love and support of this community means to us.

Massive Massive Thank you to Joux A! Backer #111

We owe a great debt of gratitude to Joux A from French Polynesia. He took it upon himself to not only proof-read and provide us with very valuable feedback on the Skirmish Manual but also to single-handedly translate the whole thing into French. The translation is now with the Artists and we will be releasing it shortly.

Huge Thank you to Robert Lewis! Backer #173

We'd like to take this opportunity to also thank Robert Lewis from Bangor, UK. He identified and shared what we need to do to keep the campaign getting featured on Kicktraq and helped us get it back up there. He's also been active on Twitter, Facebook and Board Game Geek to help us to keep the outreach going.

What to expect from the next update

We had originally planned a total of 12 Extended Goals for this campaign and 2 Social Extended Goals. So far we have unlocked 1 Social Extended Goal and revealed another. The time has come that we show you what you can expect to see in these goals as we start to pick up speed. In the next update we are also revealing 1 new Social Extended Goal. (This one is a special surprise)

We are also revealing 12 *new* Community Achievements that will add more Avertigos goodness for all the Game level pledges (from the Duelling kit on-wards)

We need your help!

Avertigos is an ambitious game with a lot of firsts. From 3D Tactics and manoeuvres to its Lego-like modular miniatures. From its gorgeous art and rich theme to its massive scope and strategic depth. We put our heart and soul into crafting it and refining it meticulously up to this point. We have planned marketing and advertising efforts to share our creation with the world.

However, there can be better no better more authentic testament to Avertigos South China Sky than this front-runner community that has not only backed but also helped shape this dream before everybody else.

We need you to reach out to other enthusiasts and share this campaign with the greater board and table top game community. With your help we can make Avertigos the surprise breakout hit boardgame campaign of 2017. So please forward, share and tweet our campaign on your socials/email/whatsapp/blog et al.

Warmest Regards

Sid
